WeatherTech Raceway 12 DECEMBER 2021
Chris Nolte secured the win in the second race of the weekend at Laguna Seca, giving both himself and +MVT Racing their first victory this season. Teammate Steven Carlile struggled to find pace and consistency, and was unable to take a podium finish in either race.
Race 1 saw Emily Howe start from the pole position and maintain control over Bree Widner’s Porsche in P2, taking the victory by a 5-second margin. Nolte slotted into P3, while Carlile finished P5 after coming back from contact with the wall on lap 3.
Race 2 started with the field inverted, and as expected, this created spectacular racing throughout. Contact on lap 1 between Howe and Nolte sent them both spinning, creating a 15-second gap to overcome by the time they rejoined the track, while Rebecca Rennie and Lilac Zier led the field for the first half of the race.
Howe and Nolte recovered the lost time from their lap 1 tangle, and a 5-way battle ensued for 2nd place between Rennie, Howe, Carlile, Widner, and Nolte. Rennie, defending her position, pushed wide entering the corkscrew and slid back onto the track just in front of Carlile, causing a stack-up and sending Carlile into the wall.
With the time ticking away, Nolte made his move towards the front, taking P2 from Howe on lap 16 and the lead from Zier the following lap. From then on, it was a game of defense from the #3 Lamborghini as he protected the lead from both Widner and Howe in the closing laps. Ultimately, Nolte succeeded and claimed his first victory of the season.
The series heads to Red Bull Ring for the final event of the season next week, and while Emily Howe has already clinched the championship, the top-5 in the standings are still up for grabs. Only 1 point separates +MVT drivers Carlile and Nolte for 2nd place.
